Man City eye 27 y/o who’s ‘flourished’ in Serie A, club want ‘successor’ for legend

Sergio Aguero could be on his way out of Manchester City at the end of the season as his deal is up this summer and he’s yet to put pen to paper on a contract extension. The Daily Telegraph say City are on the hunt for his ‘successor’ and have Romelu Lukaku among others on their radar.

The 27-year-old has ‘flourished’ at Inter Milan and is one of Europe’s most prolific centre-forwards, so it’s easy to see why Pep Guardiola is considering a move. Whether Lukaku would return to Manchester to play for his former club’s rivals remains to be seen, however.

The Belgian international scored 42 goals and made 13 assists in 96 games for the Manchester United (2017-2019). He’s netted 51 goals and made nine assists in 73 games for Inter (2019 – present). In the last 18 months, Aguero has managed 25 goals in 41 games across the board, so Lukaku could fill his shoes.

He won’t come cheap, however. Inter paid €80m (£71.1m) for the 27-year-old who has three-and-a-half years remaining on his deal at the San Siro, so City may have to break their transfer record (£64m for Ruben Dias) to sign him. That’s also assuming Inter would willingly sell one of their most important players…
