Manchester City want a long-term replacement for Sergio Aguero as his deal is up in a matter of months and no progress has been made on a contract extension.

Romelu Lukaku, Ali Akman, Erling Haaland, Lautaro Martinez, Arek Milik and Harry Kane among others have been linked with a move to the Sky Blues, but the Daily Telegraph believe Darwin Nunez might be the one they end up signing.

The 21-year-old has made 22 appearances in all competitions since joining Benfica on a five-year deal from UD Almeria in September 2020, scoring eight goals with eight assists.

Nunez has had a hand in nine goals from 13 Liga NOS games, creating 19 chances, winning 25 aerial duels and having 17 successful dribbles, so it’s easy to see why City are keen.

Benfica manager Jorge Jesus said in November that the Uruguayan international ‘will be a world-class player’ in the future and expects Nunez to be sold for more than Joao Felix (£114m to Atletico Madrid).
