Man City face PL rivals in FA Cup 3rd round – here’s their head-to-head record [Opinion]

Manchester City have been drawn with Chelsea in the third round of the FA Cup and are favourites to progress into the fourth round with home advantage.

Pep Guardiola’s men are enjoying a better domestic season than the West London outfit and beat them in September’s EFL Cup clash, so City will be expected to come out on top at the Etihad.

City are second in the Premier League table with 32 points from 14 games this campaign, coming off the back of three wins from four. The Sky Blues had an unbeaten home record in all competitions before Brentford picked up three points in Manchester before the World Cup, so Chelsea have a tough task getting a result.

The history books show Chelsea wining away to City is extremely rare since 2009 – they’ve managed only three victories at the Etihad in 13 years. City have won 11 times from 14 home games against the Londoners, beaten them twice in 2022 without conceding, so their FA Cup clash should go the way of the favourites.

Chelsea are six places and 11 points worse off in the table and have lost more away games (4) than they’ve won (3) in the league (8), so it’s hard to see them pulling off an upset.
