Man City have 26 y/o ‘on their books’ after player ‘rejected’ contract, future is ‘uncertain’

|

Erling Haaland is an internal solution for Gabriel Jesus’ departure while Jack Grealish, Phil Foden and Cole Palmer are internal solutions for Raheem Sterling’s impending departure, so Pep Guardiola does have a big enough squad to replace the two outgoing forwards.

Is Jack Grealish good enough to replace Raheem Sterling?

Yes

No

Foden has already shown he’s able to replace Sterling’s goals and assists when the 27-year-old joins Chelsea, but SportBild (h/t Sport Witness) say Guardiola still wants to bring Serge Gnabry to the Etihad Stadium, perhaps because he doesn’t trust Grealish?

Gnabry has an ‘uncertain future’ at Bayern Munich as his contract is up in 2023 and he’s ‘rejected’ a new lucrative deal. The Bundesliga champions can’t risk losing the German international on a free transfer, so they may have to cash in early while he still has value.

The 26-year-old joined Bayern from Werder Bremen in 2017 and has gone on to make 171 appearances in all competitions, scoring 64 goals with 40 assists. Gnabry scored 17 goals with 10 assists from 45 games last season, so he’s prolific enough to replace Sterling, but a deal isn’t close.

There’s no suggestion from SportBild that a bid is in the offing, so it remains to be seen where the German forward will end up this summer.
