Man City “have an agreement” over “excellent” attacking prodigy – Report

|

According to a report by Belgian news outlet Het Belang van Limburg, via Sport Witness, Man City and SK Lommel ‘have an agreement’ over the transfer of attacker Marlos Moreno – with the City Football Group-owned club reportedly signing the player

Moreno, who arrived at the Etihad four years ago from Atletico Nacional, was once lauded as a real Colombian prospect after he shone for Los Verdolagas – but an array of loan spells has since followed after he put pen-to-paper.

Shipped out to Deportivo La Cornua, Girona, Flamengo, Santos Laguna and Portimonense in that order, Moreno has gone through loan stints around the globe without playing a single minute of competitive action for the Sky Blues.

Was signing Marlos Moreno a mistake?

Yes, waste of time and money

No, he could always improve and return

Wasted talent?

The winger’s brilliant 2015/2016 season at Atletico persuaded City to snap up the exciting attacking talent for £4.75 million back in 2016, with the Colombia international turning heads.

He was manager Pep Guardiola’s third signing in charge, coming after we snapped up Leroy Sane and Gabriel Jesus that same summer, but Moreno’s career path in Manchester definitely didn’t follow the same trajectory.

Now, it appears SK Lommel is the next pit stop for the South American on a seemingly never-ending road.

Sky high potential…

As explained by Manchester Evening News journalist Stuart Brennan, City’s freshly revamped scouting set up, targeting talent from the South American continent, were excited by the promise of both Jesus and Moreno – but the former has just helped us get past Real Madrid while the other has gone out on five loan spells in four years.

A past piece in The World Game by writer Tim Vickery explained how Moreno could have been destined for greatness at one stage, with the ‘excellent’ attacking prodigy attracting attention for his performances in Colombia whilst even earning a call-up to the national team.

However, it now appears a long way back for the 23-year-old, but not too late by any means.

The final verdict…

While it’s unlikely Moreno will feature in City’s future project, the fact SK Lommel are part of the City Football Group potentially means the option is always there if he starts to replicate his past heroics.
