Man City have ‘bid rejected’ for 23 y/o, player was close to agreeing personal terms

|

Manchester City identified Marc Cucurella as a successor to Benjamin Mendy and upgrade on Oleksandr Zinchenko weeks ago but delayed lodging a bid as they were waiting on players sales before making a move.

But with Oleksandr Zinchenko on his way to Arsenal, Fabrizio Romano said days ago that the Premier League champions were ready to lodge an offer and had agreed personal terms. Sky Sports say a £30m bid has been rejected, however, so the Premier League champions will have to pay more to land his signature.

Cucurella joined the Seagulls on a five-year deal from Getafe last summer and has made 38 appearances in all competitions, scoring one goal with two assists.

The Spanish international, who made his debut in June 2021, has all the hallmarks to be an effective left-back for Pep Guardiola – Cucurella is creative (28 successsful dribbles, 42 chances and 115 crosses whipped in) and combative (93 tackles and 30 interceptions).

Brighton have the 23-year-old tied down for until 2026 and rate Cucurella highly, so they have no intention letting him gor for cheap. Sky Sports say a bid of £50m will be necessary from City to bring him to the Etihad Stadium, so time will tell if they meet Albion’s demands.
