Manchester City played their second game in four days, with their opponents being fellow European chasers Portsmouth. Mark Hughes kept the same side that beat AC Omonia 2-1.
The game started well for City and where pressing from the off. City almost found the lead within 3 minutes. Elano found Garrido who slid the ball to Jo, who showed his Brazilian flair by flicking the ball on to Robinho, whose shot was saved by David James.
Shaun Wright-Phillips then saw his shot flicked over the bar from James. David James at this point looked like he was on a mission, but little did he know what was to come.
A minute later, City did take the lead. Robinho played a precise throughball to fellow countrymen Jo, who danced around the keeper before slotting home. City 1-0.
Before my internet decided to break down on me, I was thinking about writing about Richard Dunne, and whether he was good enough anymore. I was left eating my words as on 20 minutes Richard Dunne darted towards the ball and managed to get the last touch as the ball trickled past the line. City 2-0.
Portsmouth did have a slight chance when Crouch`s shot flew past the left hand post, but it was City who looked threatened as Robinho forced a good save from James.

Portsmouth made a change at the interval, as Kaboul was replaced by John Utaka.
Within seconds of the restart City could have conceded. Micah Richards header clear found Defoe who`s shot come cross flashed wide to the relief of the City faithful.
The chants of “we`ve got Robinho”, where never louder, as on the 57th Minute Ireland fed Jo, who slotted the ball to? Yes you guessed it Robinho who fired beyond James. City 3-0.
Stephen Ireland then set up the forth, as Shaun Wright-Phillips broke the offside trap and slotted home, Rampant stuff!.
Before I could catch my breathe number five was scored. Ched Evans who had recently come on, showed his finishing skills my slotting home from close range.
Was this to be the end of Portsmouth`s nightmare? I don`t think so. G. Fernandes, raced on to the ball, as James and Wright-Phillips collided. And stroked the ball home!
City had more chances; both Ched Evans and Wright-Phillips tested James again.
The Best thing about this score was my family where watching the United game on record, and City Scored the Sixth the same time that Chelsea equalised, Absolutely Brilliant!
