Pep Guardiola isn’t short of midfielders at Manchester City with Kevin De Bruyne, Ilkay Gundogan, Bernardo Silva, Rodri, Kalvin Phillips and Phil Foden at his disposal, but he only has 22 senior players in his squad and could do with more depth to play Silva and Foden in a more advanced role.
It takes a midfielder of high calibre to get into the City team, but Dani Serrano of El Nacional believes Toni Kroos could be that player. The 32-year-old has an uncertain future at Real Madrid as he’s out of contract next summer and has rejected a new deal.

Kroos joined Real from Bayern Munich in 2014 and has gone on to make 370 appearances in all competitions, scoring 25 goals with 83 assists. The German international remains a regular under Carlo Ancelotti, making five appearances across the board this season, but it remains to be seen if he’ll stay beyond 2023.
Guardiola managed Kroos during his time at Bayern and gave the midfielder 51 appearances as they won three consecutive Bundesliga titles, so the latter might be keen to renew acquaintances. That being said, Real have no intention of letting Kroos leave despite his advancing age.
Luka Modric is 37 years old and remains a key player at the Santiago Bernabeu, so City will have some resistance.
