Kevin De Bruyne has scored three goals and made 11 assists in 21 Premier League appearances while creating 61 chances, making 35 successful dribbles, completing 81.8% of his 1043 passes and averaging a tackle (32) or interception (8) every 41 minutes (WhoScored), and has been hailed as a “perfect footballer” by Jack Grealish who also called the Belgian international his “favourite player”.

Grealish told YouTube channel UMM: “De Bruyne is my favourite player. I think he is probably the most perfect footballer in the Prem. I try and take little bits really out of his game. Although I had a good season last year, if you actually looked at it my big chances created weren’t as high as other people in my position.

“This year, my expected assists I think is the highest, and my big chances created is up there as well, so that’s what I wanted to improve on, and that was obviously really looking at De Bruyne and his game and what he does.” Only Grealish has a better minutes-per-chance created ratio (26.4) than De Bryne (27.2), so the pair of playmakers are the best in their Premier League right now (WhoScored).

De Bruyne has made four Premier League appearances since returning from a month-long hamstring injury but hasn’t been at his best due to the lack of match fitness, but his numbers are still outstanding from the first half of the season.

Grealish’s praise is more than warranted. Prior to his injury, De Bruyne had scored or made an assist in eight of his last 13 league outings and hadn’t gone more than three games without contributing a goal (Transfermarkt), so Pep Guardiola will hope the 29-year-old can pick up where he left off.
