Man City may have to pay £33.3m and £33k p/w wages to sign ‘star player’ from PL rivals

Manchester City aren’t short of creative midfielders with Ilkay Gundogan, Kevin De Bruyne, Phil Foden and Bernardo Silva at their disposal, but Foot Mercato believe they’re after another addition to the engine room. Leicester City’s ‘star player’ Youri Tielemans is on their radar, but City may have to battle Real Madrid to procure his signature.

The 24-year-old has an uncertain future at the King Power Stadium as his contract is up in 2023 and he’s not close to putting pen to paper on a new deal. Leicester may soon be resigned to selling Tielemans rather than losing him for nothing next year, so his asking price may be lowered. City and Real are now trying to capitalise on the situation.

Tielemans initially joined Leicester on loan from AS Monaco in January 2019 and turned the move permanent in July. The Belgian international has gone on to make 141 appearances in all competitions, scoring 24 goals with 22 assists, but he could be on the move after catching the eye of European giants. Leicester hope he’ll sign a new deal but aren’t having luck this season.

Foot Mercato say Tielemans may be available for €40m (£33.3m) while earning £1.7m-a-year (£33k-per-week) at Leicester, so he wouldn’t break the bank.
