England’s 0-0 draw with USA could see Gareth Southgate make changes to his starting eleven ahead of Tuesday’s meeting with Wales, but that may still not open the door to Kalvin Phillips getting a look-in.

England v Wales: What will the outcome be?

England to win

Wales to win

England looked tired against USA and will be playing their third game in just over a week when they face Wales, so the underperformers from Friday’s clash might need to be replaced.

Jude Bellingham wasn’t at his best in England’s second World Cup group game, but it might be Jordan Henderson that gets the nod over him if Southgate decides to make a change.

The 32-year-old replaced Bellingham in the second half against USA and put in a good performance, completing 90.9% of his 11 passes, whipping in two crosses and winning a freekick.

It makes more sense to start a player that’s already had playing time in the tournament over one that’s been injured for months, so Phillips may have to be patient.

The 26-year-old has made just four appearances for Manchester City this season, last featuring in mid-September, so he will be very rusty. Phillips’ adeptness at turning over the ball would be useful for England, but his lack of match fitness isn’t ideal.

Bellingham isn’t guaranteed to be dropped either, but Henderson probably has more chance of replacing him than Phillips.
