Man City player has uncertain future, could be truth to ‘disgruntled’ rumours [Opinion]

Aymeric Laporte was one of five Manchester City players rumoured to be ‘disgrunted’ in a recent report from Spain. But while Vital Man City played down talk of Kyle Walker and Bernardo Silva leaving, it’s possible Laporte could go when the season comes to a close.

The 28-year-old has been short of playing time this season due to injury woes, leading to him falling down the pecking order. Laporte might get sick of sitting on the bench when fit, so it’s not farfetched to suggest he could consider his future in the coming months.

Laporte has made 13 appearances in all competitions this campaign, only five of which have come in the Premier League. The French-born Spanish international didn’t make his first league appearance until October and has only played in one top-flight game since November, so he can’t be pleased with the lack of action.

Nathan Ake has been preferred in the left centre-back role, let alone John Stones and Manuel Akanji getting the nod ahead of Laporte, so he might have a serious decision to make over the summer.

Finding a suitor might be difficult, however, as City will surely want to make back most of the £57m spent, let alone the player wanting his £120k-per-week/£6.2m-a-year wages covered, so not many clubs can afford him.
