Kyle Walker has been a regular under Pep Guardiola this campaign, but the 32-year-old has an uncertain long-term future at Manchester City.

Walker has two years remaining on the five-year deal he signed in 2019 but may not be handed an extension as he’s in the eve of his career and is struggling to stay fit each season.

The England international has made eight appearances in all competitions this season but is currently sidelined with injury, undergoing surgery on a groin problem from early-October. He may not play for City again until December, and Walker spending time on the treatment table has been a regular occurrence of late.

Walker made 20/38 Premier League appearances last season, missing games in December 2021 due to a lack of fitness and missing games in April due to an ankle injury. This season, he’s already missed five Premier League outings and four Champions League matches, so City could do with a more reliable right-back in the future.

The 32-year-old boasts 223 appearances in all competitions since joining from Tottenham Hotspur in 2017, scoring six goals with 17 assists. He’s won four league titles, four League Cups and one FA Cup but hasn’t made 30 or more league appearances since 2019.

And in the last two campaigns, Walker has missed 32 top-flight outings, so might the passing of the torch be fast-forwarded next season? He puts in good performances when fit but can’t be trusted for an entire campaign, so he might be moved on when his contract is up in two years.
