Man City player set to sign £200k-per-week deal as Raheem Sterling closes in on exit

|

Raheem Sterling will soon be on his way out of Manchester City, releasing £200k-per-week/£10.4m-a-year from the wage bill, so the Premier League champions are giving his salary to his successor Phil Foden.

Is Pep Guardiola right to sell Raheem Sterling?

Yes

No

Phil Thomas of The Sun says the 22-year-old is set to sign a new deal worth £200k-per-week, more than tripling his original £65k-per-week contract. Foden was named PFA Young Player of the Year after scoring 14 goals with 11 assists from 45 games across the board last season.

Jack Grealish is sure to get more playing time in Sterling’s absence, but Foden is coming of age and has vindicated Pep Guardiola’s faith. The England international, who boasts two goals and six assists from 16 caps, looks ready to be the main man at City, so his salary will now reflect that.

Foden is not only able to play on both flanks and through the middle, he’s an able central midfielder who seldom relinquishes possession, so it’s easy to see why Guardiola is so fond of him. Cole Palmer is following in his footsteps after impressing at youth level, but it’s easy to forget how far Foden has come.

He played in a lot of games last season and is still only 22 years of age. City won’t miss Sterling if Foden can pick up where he left off.
