Man City player set to sign new deal until 2027

|

Phil Foden is set to sign a new deal at Manchester City as reward for his form in 2021/22, according to Graeme Bailey of 90min. The 22-year-old has reportedly been in talks with the Premier League champions since last summer and has agreed a five-year contract worth £200k-per-week/£10.4m-a-year.

Foden’s new deal will take him above Bernardo Silva (£150k-per-week/£7.8m-a-year) on the list of high-earners, so City are making a big statement with his lucrative extension. The England international is coming off the back of a fine season at the Etihad that saw him named PFA Young Player of the Year.

Foden made 45 appearances in all competitions last season, scoring 14 goals with 11 assists. He had a hand in 14 goals from 28 Premier League games, creating 40 chances while boasting 37 successful dribbles, so he really came of age.

And with Gabriel Jesus being sold to Arsenal while Raheem Sterling was offloaded to Chelsea, there will be pressure on Foden to shine in their absence. He’s made 167 appearances for City in five years and has the potential to be one of the best playmakers in Europe. Foden’s considerable payrise reflects that.
