Rico Lewis has impressed in his breakthrough season at Manchester City, going from the U18s to the first-team in months, and Harry Pratt of the Daily Star says Lewis is in line for a 400% payrise as reward for his form.
The 18-year-old had Kyle Walker and Joao Cancelo for competition at right-back, not to mention Manuel Akanji and John Stones, but he’s a regular in the starting lineup on merit and looks to have a bright future.
Lewis was earning £5k-per-week/£260k-a-year at City but Pratt says he’s now expected to take home £25k-per-week/£1.3m-a-year until 2028. It’s deserved recognition from City for his hard work this season and Pep Guardiola has been full of praise for the defender too.
Lewis has made 14 appearances in all competitions this season, featuring in five of City’s last six Premier League games. The England U19 international played in two of City’s last four Champions League group games, in both of their FA Cup outings and in two of their three EFL Cup clashes, so he’s become an important player.
Lewis has more appearances in the first-team than he ever did for the U19s (6) and U21s (10), so it’s easy to forget how quickly he made the rise to prominence – even Walker is getting ‘disgruntled’ at a lack of playing time.
