Man City remain ‘hopeful’ as Mansour plots next big move – Report

|

According to a report from the Sun journalist Martin Blackburn, the Sky Blues are remaining ‘hopeful’ of adding a tenth club to the City Football Group empire as Sheikh Mansour plots to reignite his interest in Ligue 2 outfit AS Nancy.

The CFG officially welcomed a ninth club to it’s growing list of assets recently, having acquired Belgian second tier side SK Lommel and wiped their estimated £2 million debts, with the City group ‘moving quickly‘ ahead of other potential buyers to snap up the Proximus League outfit.

Should the CFG be looking to add another club right now?

Yes, best time as any

No, wait until the pandemic subsides

Currently lying sixth in their division, SK Lommel apparently ‘fell on hard times‘ recently, with the club accumulating multi-million pound debts – but the Belgians are now reportedly ‘delighted‘ that their future in professional football now looks secure.

According to this report, the CFG, founded and headed by City owner Sheikh Mansour, are now looking to reignite their interest in French outfit AS Nancy after seemingly putting a move on hold due to the recent pandemic.

Indeed, a £12 million deal was apparently ‘in place‘ to purchase the side outright, but the current global outbreak postponed any talks of another addition to the CFG network.

Now, CFG sources claim they remain ‘hopeful‘ of finalising the deal after acquiring SK Lommel, going on to suggest that they will ‘re-assess‘ once the global pandemic begins to subside.

Showing no sign of slowing down, City have added an eighth sister club in total, with SK joining the likes of New York City, Melbourne City, Girona, Yokohoma F.Marinos, Sichuan Jiuniu, Montevideo City Torque and Mumbai City as part of the global expansion.

According to this Sun report, it may only be a matter of time before Mansour adds a tenth club to the CFG circle.
