Man City secure “pole position” in race to sign €40m-rated attacker – Report

According to an exclusive update courtesy of Eurosport, Man City have taken ‘pole position‘ in the race to sign La Liga star Ferran Torres – with the attacker looking ‘close to signing’ for the Sky Blues following Leroy Sane’s move to Bayern Munich.

Torres, starting 24 league matches for current club Valencia this season, could be on his way out of the Mestalla Stadium following owner Peter Lim’s stance that he cannot afford to offer a deal similar to the likes of City, Juventus, Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid.

Indeed, as per Eurosport, Juve apparently ‘made an offer‘ to the 20-year-old including a €4 million-per-year salary (£3.6 million) and a guaranteed place in the starting eleven.

However, after further developments, the outlet can reveal that City now lead the race to sign Torres – with sources close to the player claiming that Sky Blue representatives ‘will meet’ with his agents to finalise a move.

Valued at around €40 million (£36.3 million) by Sport Bild, the winger could serve as a viable replacement to ex-City star Sane – who recently completed a move to Bayern after a year-long transfer saga.

Director of football Txiki Begiristain is apparently keen on signing a successor to the German winger who can provide the same creativity and inventiveness out wide – with Torres apparently fitting the bill.

According to WhoScored, only Raheem Sterling has completed more dribbles on average over 2019/2020 than Torres domestically – potentially highlighting the notion he could bring a degree of creativity.

Whether or not City snap up the prodigy remains to be seen, but after our successful CAS appeal, it may be an interesting week.
