Man City target £172k-p/w ace, Guardiola “desperate” for move – Report

|

According to a report by Daily Mirror correspondent John Cross, Man City are eyeing a potential swoop for Bayern Munich defensive star David Alaba as we ponder strengthening ahead of our looming Premier League title charge next season.

Alaba, who has started 27 Bundesliga games for Bayern this season, is still a mainstay at the Allianz Arena – with manager Pep Guardiola now apparently ‘desperate’ to make much-needed additions including Alaba.

Should Man City sign Alaba?

Yes, perfect addition

No, give Angelino a chance

The £172,000-per-week ace, who played under Guardiola while the Spaniard was at the helm in Bavaria, is regarded as one of the ‘best‘ full-backs in a position which City have struggled to fill in recent seasons.

Signing Benjamin Mendy from Monaco back in the summer of 2017, the Frenchman has arguably failed to live up to his £52 million price tag, suffering from various injury issues at the Etihad Stadium.

Guardiola has been forced to improvise in the left-back position over his near four-year stay in Manchester, often deploying the likes of Fabian Delph and Oleksandr Zinchenko who are both natural midfield players.

Now, with Delph gone and Zinchenko going through a bad patch of form, it appears we are prioritising Alaba as a signing who can become reliable in defence.

The Austria international has just one year left on his current contract and Bayern have warned they will have to sell him if he doesn’t commit to a new deal.

Indeed, as a result, City are ‘watching developments closely‘ and could well make a move in future according to the Mirror.
