Man City tipped to swoop for £60m-rated “upgrade” on Zinchenko – Report

|

According to the Daily Mail, both Man City and Chelsea appear to be the most likely to sign Bayern Munich defender David Alaba – and the Austrian international could prove to be a significant ‘upgrade‘ on both Oleksandr Zinchenko and Benjamin Mendy.

Alaba, starting 27 Bundesliga matches under Hans-Dieter Flick this season, has been attracting City’s attention as a viable candidate to bolster the left-back position – an area of the pitch where we have been forced to improvise since Pep Guardiola’s arrival.

Who is the better left-back?

Zinchenko

Mendy

Angelino

Alaba

Mendy, who was signed back in the summer of 2017 as part of the fix to our full-back conundrum, has suffered from a plethora of injury issues – leading the Sky Blues to search for potential alternatives.

Since Monday morning, when we got our UEFA Champions League ban overturned by the Court of Arbitration for Sport in an historic legal victory, director of football Txiki Begiristain has been touted to move for a number of star players.

Indeed, as per the Daily Mail, City have been linked with Lautaro Martinez, Alaba, Ferran Torres and Kalidou Koulibaly among other names such as Dayot Upamecano.

Guardiola praised Alaba in particular during past interviews as a player who can perform in ‘every position‘. with the 28-year-old adept at playing both as a left-back and a centre-back – potentially allowing the Sky Blues to kill two defensive birds with one stone.

Averaging an impressive 90.7% pass accuracy this season, the £60 million-rated ace certainly has all the tools to entice City with a move, but whether or not we make him our first signing of the window remains to be seen.
