Man City to sell 19 y/o who started in Community Shield final, agreement reached

Samuel Edozie has been knocking on the door of Manchester City’s first-team without getting opportunities, but it doesn’t appear he’ll get the chance to break into the side next season as Pep Guardiola has green-lit a move away.

The Secret Scout via Fabrizio Romano says Bayer Leverkusen have agreed a deal with City to sign the 19-year-old permanently, so he’ll be moving from the Etihad Stadium to the BayArena in the coming days.

Edozie joined the Sky Blues from Millwall in 2019 and has scored five goals with six assists from 22 games for the U18s, made two appearances for the U19s without contributing a goal and scored eight goals with three assists from 33 games for the U23s.

The England U19 international has made one appearance for City’s first-team, starting in 2021’s Community Shield final defeat to Leicester, but he hasn’t done enough in the last 12 months to warrant keeping.

Edozie was an unused substitute in two Champions League games and one Premier League outing, so Guardiola doesn’t believe he’s close to dethroning Raheem Sterling, Riyad Mahrez or Gabriel Jesus.

A move away this summer would suit all parties, as Edozie will get regular playing time to boost his development and City will cut their losses.
