Man City tipped to negotiate “big contract” for ”outstanding” £172k-p/w stalwart – Report

|

Writing on Twitter, ex-Premier League striker Jan Åge Fjørtoft has tipped Man City to offer Bayern Munich defender David Alaba a ‘big contract‘ in Pep Guardiola’s efforts to entice the Sky Blue transfer target with a potential Etihad Stadium move.

Since our successful UEFA appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport, the Sky Blues have been linked with a host of new signings who could bolster our squad – with Alaba’s name recently emerging alongside the likes of Kalidou Koulibaly, Ferran Torres and Lautaro Martinez as per the Daily Mail.

Barcelona’s reported interest in young Man City defender Eric Garcia may also be a factor in our alleged efforts to land the ‘outstanding’ 28-year-old, with the Catalans also apparently after Alaba as well as our Spaniard.

What the reports say…

Mundo Deportivo recently claimed that Pep Guardiola and co may face stiff competition from Barcelona, while reports in England suggest that Chelsea are also in the hunt for Alaba alongside City.

Should Man City sign David Alaba?

Yes please, star defender

No

Last month, the Daily Mail reported that the Citizens were planning a huge summer transfer overhaul with deals for Koulibaly, Alaba, Torres and Martinez taking centre stage – and it appears at least one of those moves has come true.

As well as Torres, Bournemouth defender Nathan Ake looks set to sign on the dotted line, but Norwegian footballing pundit Fjørtoft has now tipped us to move for another left-footed defender with a huge offer.

The Sky Blue temptation…

While City appear to have their hands full already with two transfers reportedly inches from finalisation, ex-Premier League attacker Fjørtoft has claimed that we may tempt Alaba with a high profile move to Eastlands.

Bayern Munich have been working to extend the Austrian’s current deal, which expires in 2021, but we have reportedly mounted outside interest alongside league rivals Chelsea.

Taking to Twitter, while Fjørtoft believes that he will eventually sign an extension in Bavaria, City do in fact have the pulling power to sway him with a ‘big contract’.

“Re: Alaba, I am a big fan of David Alaba – so is Guardiola by the way and Bayern too,” explained the Norwegian.

“Still not extended his contract. Manchester City next season? Most likely he extends his contract….but I guess Man City could tempt him with a new challenge and a BIG contract.”

The Alaba consensus…

Proven at the top level for many seasons, it’s hard to argue that the centre-back wouldn’t provide an injection of quality into our defensive line.

Able to play in the middle of defence or at left-back, the £172,000-per-week stalwart could be worth the trouble judging by his past relationship with Guardiola and his impressive resume.
