Veteran referee Neil Swarbrick took up officiating relatively late, at the age of 29. Within six years he was promoted to the National List of assistant referees.

In March 2015 Swarbrick made a high-profile error during a Premier League match between Manchester City and West Bromwich Albion when he sent off the wrong player in a case of mistaken identity. In the second minute of the game, West Brom’s number 25 Craig Dawson committed a professional foul on City’s Wilfried Bony, but Swarbrick subsequently dismissed number 23 Gareth McAuley, who had been close to the incident. City went on to win the tie 3-0.

Season 2016/17

The 51-year old has taken charge of 25 Premier League, EFL Cup and lower league games during which he’s brandished 95 yellow and two red cards.
