Man City ‘will consider’ letting ‘highly-regarded’ youngster leave

James McAtee has an uncertain future at Manchester City as he’s shown enough potential to be handed first-team opportunities but is unlikely to get many given the competition at the club, so Simon Jones and Adam Shergold of Mail Online say Pep Guardiola ‘will consider’ letting him leave on loan this summer.

McAtee is ‘highly-regarded’ at City and has interest from Leeds United, Nottingham Forest, Bournemouth and Villarreal after impressing at youth level, but Guardiola will only sanction his departure if he’s given regular playing time. The City boss won’t allow McAtee to be left on the bench or out of the matchday squad as it’s detrimental to his development.

The England U20 international has risen through the youth ranks to the fringes of the first-team, scoring an impressive 14 goals in 33 games for the U18s and notching eight assists for his troubles. For the U19s, he scored three goals in two games.

And for the U23s, McAtee boasts 27 goals and 19 assists from 52 games, so it’s clear he’s ready for the step-up. The 19-year-old has featured six times at senior level but needs more minutes than Guardiola can afford him – Phil Foden, Jack Grealish, Riyad Mahrez, Bernardo Silva and Cole Palmer are standing in his way of getting playing time.

So loan move might benefit all parties.
