Inter Milan could lose Milan Skriniar and Stefan de Vrij at the end of the season as the defensive pair are out of contract next summer, and FC Inter News (h/t Sport Witness) say the Nerazzurri have identified Nathan Ake as a potential replacement.

The 27-year-old nearly left Manchester City last summer when Chelsea were showing an interest, but he ended up staying and became a regular in the starting eleven. So it’s hard to see Pep Guardiola selling Ake next summer as he’s an important player for City.

Ake has made seven appearances in all competitions this season, though he’s been short of playing time in recent weeks due to injury – the Dutch international amassed just 31 minutes of Premier League football between mid-August and mid-September.

He returned to the starting lineup in Sunday’s 6-3 win over Manchester United, however, and put in a good performance, so Ake clearly has a future at the Etihad Stadium. The 27-year-old has three years remaining on his deal too, so City aren’t obligated to cash in any time soon.

Inter could lose two of their senior centre-backs in 2023, but their pursuit of Ake is likely to be unsuccessful as he’s a regular under Guardiola and appears happy to stay until his deal expires in 2025.
