Man City’s £54m-rated playmaker impressed against Olympiacos – opinion

Manchester City sealed their place in the last-16 of the Champions League after beating Olympiacos 1-0 on Wednesday night and Phil Foden was named Man of the Match for his performance. The 20-year-old scored the only goal of the game and was a constant threat throughout.

Against Olympiacos, Foden played for 90 minutes, had 76 touches, won one aerial duel, completed 81.1% of his 53 passes, created four chances, had six shots with 33% hitting the target, whipped in three crosses, made one interception, won one freekick and had four successful dribbles.

His goal on the night came in the 36th minute, courtesy of a brilliant backheeled assist from Raheem Sterling. The £54m-rated playmaker stroked the ball first-time into the back of the net and City held on to seal all three points.

Since rising through the youth ranks to Man City’s first-team, Foden has gone on to make 86 appearances in all competitions, scoring 19 goals with 14 assists. This season, the England international has made 12 appearances across the board, scoring four goals with two assists.

He’s having a remarkable season and looks to have a bright future for club and country.
