Report: Man City player wants to leave amid Real Madrid interest, could replace 35 y/o

Real Madrid could be on the hunt for a centre-back this summer as Sergio Ramos and Raphael Varane are being linked with moves away from the Santiago Bernabeu.

El Confidential say Ramos could be on his way out after spending most of last season on the treatment table while being out of contract at the end of June. Varane is reportedly keen on a switch to France too and has one year left on his deal, so the Spaniards may need at least one replacement.

Aymeric Laporte could be one player they go for. The 27-year-old was short of playing time for Manchester City last season and might not put up with another campaign of sporadic opportunities. If Real come knocking, El Confidential believe he’s all too happy to oblige.

Whether City are willing to sell Laporte remains to be seen, however. The Spanish international is behind Ruben Dias and John Stones in the pecking order but is still a valuable member of the squad. Nathan Ake spent a lot of the season injured, so Laporte did get a fair bit of action.

Nevertheless, City would surely bring another defender in before letting Laporte go after Eric Garcia’s departure.
