According to Diario Hoy en la Noticia, Manchester City are willing to pay in excess of €20m to sign Dario Sarmiento and the transfer should be completed in a matter of days.

City were closing in on a move for Sarmiento in November, but Estudiantes are said to be ‘disgusted’ at the media claiming a deal is done and say ‘there is no official offer’ for the 17-year-old.

Before any transfer is sanctioned, it has to go through chairman Juan Sebastián Verón and one of the club’s vice-presidents. There’s been a fallout between Estudiantes and Sarmiento’s representatives Facundo Fraga and Luciano Galletti too, but it’s not expected to affect the deal.

Estudiantes haven’t won a league game since March and Sarmiento has been accused of having ‘one foot in City’, so maybe his head has been turned. To play for Pep Guardiola is the dream for many players, so he could be forgiven for being distracted.

The 17-year-old has already made 12 appearances at senior level and has one assist to his name, boasting a better minutes-per-dribble ratio than Riyad Mahrez and Raheem Sterling, so his future is bright.
