Report: Man City make decision on £42.7m player, club ‘reluctant’ to agree deal

Manchester City have been linked with Nuno Mendes for the longest time as Benjmain Mendy’s future has been uncertain, but it doesn’t appear the Sky Blues will make a move as Correio da Manhã (h/t Sport Witness) says they’re ‘reluctant’ to meet his asking price.

Mendes rose through the youth ranks to the Sporting first-team in 2020, making 44 appearances in all competitions. The 19-year-old has already nailed down a regular starting place at left-back and has four more years remaining on his contract.

Despite being an important player to Rúben Amorim while impressing when Sporting finally won the Primeira Liga title last season, Mendes would be granted a departure this summer if Sporting’s demands were met. The Portuguese outfit want €50m (£42.7m) which has put City off from making a move.

Although the Sky Blues paid £45m for Kyle Walker, £52m for Mendy and £60m for Joao Cancelo in the past, Pep Guardiola has been open about their financial situation this summer and doesn’t believe they have the resources for a lucrative spend.

Mendes might not be on his way to the Etihad any time soon.
