Man City battling Bayern for 6ft 2in man with more tackles than Fernandinho and Rodri

According to Calciomercato (h/t TEAMtalk), Manchester City are interested in Denis Zakaria and will have to battle Bayern Munich to procure his signature.

The 23-year-old has yet to make an appearance for Borussia Monchengladbach this season due to a long-term knee injury suffered in March, but he’s expected to have a lot of clubs keen when he eventually recovers.

Sky Germany believe Zakaria is open to a move away from Borussia-Park having turned down a new contract with Gladbach, but there’s been no official bid from a suitor.

Zakaria joined the Bundesliga outfit from BSC Young Boys in 2017 and has made 98 appearances across the board, scoring eight goals with six assists. He’s been sidelined since March but may be sold when he’s fit enough to pass a medical.

According to CIES Football Observatory, the 6ft 2in Swiss international is valued at around €20m-€30m (£17.9m-£26.8m). Transfermarkt say he’s worth £36m. In October, Christian Falk (h/t Sport Illustrated) said City were lining up a €40m (£35.75m) bid, but there’s been no update.

Last season, Zakaria averaged a tackle every 39.7 minutes in the Bundesliga which trumps Fernandinho (48 minutes) and Rodri (49.8 minutes) in the Premier League, so he could improve our midfield. Time will tell.
