Report: Man City close in on £36m midfielder, could be bad news for 6ft 3in man

According to Fussball Transfers, Manchester City are closing in on Denis Zakaria and could procure his signature next summer. The 24-year-old is expected to be sold in 2021 as his deal will expire a year later and he’s yet to put pen to paper on a contract extension.

Fernandinho is expected to leave Man City when his deal expires at the end of the season and Fussball Transfers say the Sky Blues have positioned themselves to bring Zakaria to the Etihad Stadium as his potential replacement.

The £36m-rated Swiss international has made 100 appearances in all competitions for Borussia Monchengladbach since joining from BSC Young Boys in 2017, scoring eight goals with six assists. Zakaria has made four appearances across the board this season as he’s not long recovered from a serious knee injury.

And now he’s returned to fitness, City appear ready to make their move. What Zakaria’s future arrival would mean for Rodri is unknown, however. The 6ft 3in midfielder has been inconsistent since joining from Atletico Madrid in July 2019, but Pep Guardiola is still keeping the faith.

Zakaria hasn’t played a lot of football this season, but he’s been a terrific servant for Gladbach and would improve the City squad.
