Report: Man City may have to pay £13.3m and £6.6m-a-year wages to sign 287-goal man

Sergio Aguero is out of contract in a matter of months and could be on his way out of Manchester City, so Pep Guardiola is looking for a replacement striker. Although Gabriel Jesus can deputise for the 32-year-old, he hasn’t scored in the Premier League since November, so there has been talk of us signing a centre-forward earlier than scheduled.

City have been linked with RB Leipzig’s Patson Daka, Tottenham Hotspur’s Harry Kane, Inter Milan’s Lautaro Martinez, Borussia Dortmund’s Erling Haaland, Benfica’s Darwin Nunez, Inter’s Romelu Lukaku and Napoli’s Arek Milik, but Gazette dello Sport (h/t Sport Witness) say Edin Dzeko might be an option.

The 34-year-old has scored eight goals and made two assists in 20 appearances for AS Roma this season, captaining the side on 14 occasions, but he could be on his way out after falling out with manager Paulo Fonseca.

Dzeko was a good servant for City, scoring 72 goals and making 39 assists in 189 games between 2011 and 2016, but it’s unlikely he’ll return to the Etihad Stadium given his advancing age, €7.5m-a-year (£6.6m-a-year) wages and €15m (£13.3m) asking price.

The Bosnian international boasts 287 career goals, but he’s in the eve of his career and provides little resale value. Bringing Dzeko back in January would be short-termism and isn’t worth paying £13.3m + £6.6m for.
