Fernandinho’s future at Manchester City has been uncertain for the longest time as his contract was up in eight weeks and wasn’t likely to be renewed due to his advancing age.
Brazilian journalist Jorge Nicola recently published a video on his YouTube account (h/t Sport Witness) confirming that Fernandinho won’t be getting a ‘contract renewal’, so this season will be his last at the Etihad Stadium.

The 36-year-old joined City from Shakhtar Donetsk in 2013 and has gone on to make 347 appearances in all competitions, scoring 24 goals with 28 assists. He’s won three Premier League titles, six League Cups and one FA Cup.
Fernandinho could be adding another league title and a first Champions League crown if City have a successful end to the current season too.
And although this could be his final campaign, the Brazilian international has still managed 33 appearances across the board and played a full 90 minutes in City’s Champions League semi-final second leg, so he’s been useful to Pep Guardiola.
It will be a sad day when Fernandinho leaves because he’s been a key player in City’s success and can stake a claim as one of the best midfielders the Premier League has seen.
