Report: Man City may have to pay £150m and £200k-per-week to sign 225-goal striker

According to the Daily Mail, Manchester City are interested in Harry Kane and may have to battle Manchester United to procure his signature.

The 27-year-old still has three-and-a-half years remaining on his deal at Tottenham Hotspur, but his future is uncertain as Spurs are in financial difficulty and are at risk of finishing outside of the Champions League and Europa League.

Jose Mourinho’s side are currently ninth in the Premier League table, six points adrift of the top-four and four points adrift of the top-six. The Daily Mail believe Tottenham’s toils in the top-flight could have a bearing on Kane, but he wouldn’t be cheap to sign if City and United did make a move.

The England international earns £200k-per-week/£10.4m-a-year and has an asking price of £150m, so he’d be the Sky Blues’ most expensive signing and one of their highest earners if lured away from North London. With 225 career goals in 384 games, Kane might be worth the outlay.

But if not the 27-year-old, City have been linked with Lionel Messi, Erling Haaland, Harry Kane, Romelu Lukaku, Danny Ings and Kylian Mbappe recently, so they have other irons in the fire.

Tottenham have no desire to sell Kane and need not rush given his deal runs until 2024, so it remains to be seen if City stand a chance of signing him.

In other news, Manchester City may have to pay £173m and £498k-per-week wages to sign Kylian Mbappe
