Report: Man City ‘in the hunt’ for ‘sensational’ £17.2m man with more goals than Sterling and Jesus

Manchester City are ‘in the hunt’ for Patson Daka and may have to battle Manchester United, Liverpool and Arsenal, say Salzburger Nachrichten (h/t Daily Mail). The ‘sensational’ 22-year-old is coming off the back of a prolific season at RB Salzburg and looks to have a bright future.

City are also monitoring the progress of Danny Ings, Harry Kane, Darwin Nunez, Edin Dzeko, Romelu Lukaku, Ali Akman, Erling Haaland, Lautaro Martinez and Arek Milik as a potential replacement for Sergio Aguero whose contract expires this summer, but Daka would improve their attack.

The Zambia international has scored 27 goals and made eight assists in 31 games in all competitions this season. Salzburg are top of the Austrian Bundesliga and Daka is leading the scoring charts with more league goals (20) than Raheem Sterling (9) and Gabriel Jesus (7), so it’s easy to see why City are keen.

Salzburger Nachrichten say he’s valued at €20m (£17.2m) but may fetch a lot more given his growing reputation, but he won’t break the bank for a club like City. Salzburg’s record sale is £26.8m for Naby Keita to join Liverpool in 2016/17, so Daka might be more affordable compared to Kane, Lukaku, Martinez and Haaland.
