City interested in Leicester City midfielder this summer

|

Manchester City hold an interest in Leicester City midfielder James Maddison according to reports coming out today. Maddison, 26 has featured in the Premier League 14 times for Brendan Rodger’s side so far this season, scoring 7 times and assisting a further 4.

According to Jack Gaughan/@Jack_Gaughan and Tom Collomose/@TomCollomose City have an interest in the player due to Pep Guardiola wanting more goals from those behind talisman Erling Haaland. Guardiola is correct, out of the Blue’s 53 goals in the top flight this term, 25 have come from the Norwegian goal machine. Ilkay Gundogan has found the net just twice in the league, the same can be said for Bernardo Silva, with superstar Kevin De Bruyne scoring 3 times (albeit the Belgian has a staggering 11 assists.)

Interestingly, Maddison is entering the last 12 months of his contract at the King Power and Leicester seem increasingly unlikely to keep hold of their star, after turning down bids of £60 million from Newcastle last summer for his services.

There are some stumbling blocks that could also jeopardise a move for Maddison, the natural progression of Phil Foden into midfield and City’s pursuit of a winger. With a potential move for AC Milan star Rafael Leao being touted, a winger would see Foden come into central areas and occupy spaces behind Haaland.

With the potential departure of Bernardo Silva and Ilkay Gundogan in the summer, City definitely to reinforce the midfield areas. Whether James Maddison is the man City will go for, only time will tell.
