Report: Man City ‘interested’ in 24 y/o with more chances created than Phil Foden

|

Manchester City aren’t short of options out wide with Riyad Mahrez, Phil Foden, Bernardo Silva, Raheem Sterling and Ferran Torres, but Rac1 (h/t AS) says the Sky Blues are ‘interested’ in Ousmane Dembele.

The 24-year-old joined Barcelona from Borussia Dortmund for £121.5m in 2017 and has gone on to make 118 appearances in all competitions, scoring 30 goals with 21 assists.

Dembele was a regular at the Camp Nou last season, featuring in 44 games across the board, having a hand in 16 goals and creating more chances in La Liga (39) than Phil Foden (36) but his long-term future might be uncertain.

The French international scored only six goals in 30 La Liga games in 2020/21 and could have Memphis Depay for competition if Barcelona manage to agree terms with the 27-year-old this summer.

City could capitalise on the situation, but Dembele won’t be cheap. His deal is up in 2022, but Barcelona would want to make back as much of the £121.5m spent as possible.

If the Sky Blues are trying to bring Jack Grealish and Harry Kane to the Etihad Stadium in one transfer window, it’s hard to see how they’ll manage to sign Dembele too.
