Man City ‘keeping tabs’ on £60.6m man with more goals than Gundogan and Sterling

Manchester City are still on the hunt for Sergio Aguero’s long-term replacement and the Mirror say they’re now ‘keeping tabs’ on Alexander Isak.

The 21-year-old has been in fantastic form at Real Sociedad and has interest from Borussia Dortmund and Barcelona, so the Sky Blues may have a difficult task of landing his signature.

Isak joined La Real from Dortmund in 2019 and has gone on to make 74 appearances in all competitions, scoring 28 goals with five assists (Transfermarkt).

The Swedish international has netted 12 goals and made two assists in 20 La Liga games this season, so he’s scored more domestic goals than Ilkay Gundogan (11) and Raheem Sterling (9) (WhoScored).

It’s easy to see why City would be interested, but Isak won’t come cheap – his release clause is €70m (£60.6m). It’s hard to see Barcelona landing his signature given their financial woes of late. And while the Mirror say Dortmund have the option to re-sign the striker for €25m at the end of each season, Isak has no desire to return.

This might put City in the driving seat if they’re seriously considering making an approach when the campaign comes to a close.
