Aymeric Laporte has struggled for playing time at Manchester City this season and could be on his way out when the summer transfer window opens. Calciomercato say the Sky Blues will ‘listen to offers’ for the 26-year-old, but is it the right decision?

Laporte has lost his place at centre-back as Pep Guardiola prefers Ruben Dias alongside John Stones, but Laporte would need replacing if sold and Eric Garcia’s expected departure could leave City short in defence. Nathan Ake would be the only backup, but he’s spent most of the season on the treatment table.

Laporte has made 22 appearances from a possible 47 in all competitions this season (46.8%), amassing 1945 minutes from 4230 (46%). The 6ft 2in defender has started only 38.7% of City’s Premier League games in 2020/21, so his future may be away from the Etihad Stadium.

City paid £58.5m for Laporte and his market value with Transfermarkt is £45m, so the league leaders could take a hit on his sale. The Frenchman is yet to represent his country at international level and his chances will remain slim while he’s struggling for consistent playing time.
