Report: Man City ‘on lookout’ for £107m man, club to sell 30 y/o due to financial crisis

Manchester City are still trying to sign a replacement for Sergio Aguero and had their eye on Paris Saint-Germain’s Kylian Mbappe, Tottenham Hotspur’s Harry Kane and Borussia Dortmund’s Erling Haaland, but Sport say they’re now ‘on the lookout’ for Barcelona’s Antoine Griezmann.

The 30-year-old has an uncertain future at the Camp Nou after struggling for form and playing time under Ronald Koeman. Griezmann is a high-earner at cash-strapped Barcelona too, so the Catalans could do with trimming his lofty salary from their out of control wage bill.

Griezmann joined Barca from Atletico Madrid for £107m in 2019 and has gone on to make 99 appearances in all competitions, scoring 35 goals with 17 assists. The French international made 51 appearances across the board last season, scoring 20 goals with 13 assists, but he wasn’t as prolific in La Liga.

Griezmann scored only 13 goals from 36 league games in 2020/21, so Barca need a more consistent forward that isn’t taking home €881k-per-week (£753k-per-week), so the 30-year-old might be available for sale.

Sport note that Atleti, Chelsea, Manchester United and Juventus are also showing an interest in Griezmann, so it remains to be seen where he’ll end up this summer. Barca need to cash in regardless, so they’ll be motivated sellers.
