Nathan Ake has endured a forgettable debut season at Manchester City and Voetbal International say he’s ‘considering his options’ this summer. The 26-year-old has struggled for fitness and opportunities and has found it ‘difficult to play’ under Pep Guardiola as a result.

Ake joined City from Bournemouth in August and has gone on to make just 11 appearances in all competitions this season. The Dutch international spent large portions of the campaign out with a hamstring injury and now finds himself behind John Stones, Ruben Dias and Aymeric Laporte in the pecking order after getting fit.

Eric Garcia is leaving City at the end of the season because he was unable to nail down a regular place in defence and VI say Ake is considering the same. The 26-year-old has four more years remaining on his deal at the Etihad Stadium, so Guardiola has no obligation to cash in.

He may not want to lose a second defender as it will force him to replace Ake when the transfer window opens, so time will tell if he’s moved on. Pep used the Dutchman in City’s first four games of the season before injury struck and has started him twice in the Sky Blues’ last four games, so he may have a plan for him.
