Manchester City are on the hunt for Sergio Aguero’s replacement but are no closer to signing one of Harry Kane, Kylian Mbappe or Erling Haaland, so Football Insider believe Danny Ings is being considered as an alternative.
The Sky Blues have ‘reginited their interest’ in the 28-year-old as Kane could be set to join Manchester United rather than City, so Pep Guardiola may need another prolific homegrown striker.
Ings joined Southampton from Liverpool in 2019 and has gone on to make 100 appearances in all competitions, scoring 46 goals with 10 assists. The England international only netted 12 times in the Premier League last season but still has a believe in Guardiola.
Football Insider say the City manager wants an expert penalty box operator that is capable of finishing the chances his side create, so Ings would be ideal for the role. The 28-year-old scored 11 of his 12 goals in the penalty area last season, so he’s exactly what Guardiola is looking for.
The Premier League champions would still prefer one of their top targets to lead the line, however, so time will tell if it’s really Ings that ends up making the switch.
