Report: Man City may have to pay £93.75m and £6.6m-a-year wages to sign 241-goal man

Sergio Aguero is out of contract in July and could be on his way out of Manchester City, potentially leaving Pep Guardiola with only Gabriel Jesus in attack for next season.

The 23-year-old hasn’t commanded a regular starting place in 2020/21 and David Ornstein of The Athletic believe a new centre-forward is on City’s radar as a result.

Romelu Lukaku is one of many names on their wishlist, but Ornstein concedes that he’s not a typical Guardiola player. If Jesus struggles for minutes despite being a hard-working and mobile striker, it’s hard to see why Lukaku is considered a better option.

Ornstein says the 27-year-old is more affordable than other transfer targets, but is that really the case with his £93.75m asking price? Lukaku takes home £6.6m-a-year at Inter Milan too, so he’d be among the highest earners if he returned to Manchester.

The Belgian international has scored 54 goals and made nine assists in 78 games for Inter, establishing himself as one of the best strikers in Europe with a career total of 241 goals, but that doesn’t mean City will make a move.
