Man City interested in £67.5m-rated forward with twice as many goals as Riyad Mahrez

According to Charlie Eccleshare and Tom Worville of The Athletic, Manchester City hold an interest in Heung-min Son but have never lodged an official bid.

The 28-year-old has been outstanding for Tottenham this season and could be the radar of a number of clubs in January, but it remains to be seen whether he’d be let go given his importance to the Lilywhites.

Son joined Spurs from Bayer Leverkusen in 2015 and has gone on to make 244 appearances in all competitions, scoring 96 goals with 52 assists. The South Korean international has shone this campaign, scoring 11 goals and making five assists in 15 games across the board.

Riyad Mahrez is our top goalscorer this season (7 Premier League appearances, 4 goals, 1 assist) but Son has more than twice as many goals (9), so he’d certainly improve our squad. Son wouldn’t come cheap unfortunately though.

Tottenham paid £27m for the in-form attacker five years ago, but Transfermarkt say he’s now worth £67.5m while CIES Football Observatory value the 28-year-old at €70m-€90m (£62.9m-£80.8m). I don’t think there’s any price they would accept this season while their title hunt is on, so we’re probably barking up the wrong tree.
