Tuesday 25 September 2018 ended up being triumphant for both Manchester City seniors as well as the EDS lads. While the first team came away from Oxford United victorious in the third round of the Carabao Cup 3-0 City’s Academy starlets were cruising past League Two outfit Crewe Alexandra.

Crewe Alexandra 1-4 Manchester City EDS

Seventy-one Blues mingled with the 810 Alexandra Stadium crowd, and by all accounts, those in attendance were thoroughly entertained by Paul Harsley’s U21s.

Tom Dele-Bashiru began the goal-fest with just 120 seconds on the clock with a well-worked goal then a beautiful piece of play from Lorenzo Gonzalez 20 minutes later gave the visitors a two-goal cushion.

Crewe’s Alex Nichols came on at halftime and six minutes from the restart got one back for the home side.

City’s Taylor Richards restored the two-goal lead from the penalty spot with only 12 minutes to go then fellow substitute Henri Ogunby made it four on the stroke of fulltime.

Crewe manager David Artell.

“It was difficult for the players tonight because they didn’t know the opposition, but that doesn’t mean they can make poor decisions on the ball. It has to improve.”
