The Premier League has appointed self-confessed Bolton Wanderers fan Lee Mason to officiate this weekend’s top-tier English fixture between Manchester City and Brighton & Hove Albion.

Although Mr. Mason is not a FIFA registered ref (he is not qualified to officiate international and European competition sanctioned matches), the 46-year-old Bolton born official has been part of England’s Select Group since 2006. In other words, he is authorised to take charge of domestic fixtures.

Out of seven games, in-charge Mason has brandished 17 yellow and one red card.
