The Champions have remained quiet on transfer targets this summer leaving a frustrated media crestfallen at the lack of opportunity to bemoan any spending…

However, Roberto Mancini who has responded at press conferences to questions over Arsenal talisman Robin Van Persie has now spoken to Sky News of the need for a buzzing with belief City to strengthen in certain areas ahead of the opening game against Southampton:

‘We need to work harder than last year and we need to buy players that can help our team to improve…I’m confident because I trust in Khaldoon and Sheikh Mansour. We don’t need big changes. We don’t need ten players like two or three years ago. Maybe three, four or five.’

The City boss went on to highlight the fact that he is looking to introduce players into his squad from the MCFC Academy alongside a couple of signings:

‘…in those five players we could introduce young players as it is important to have young players in the squad.’

Having already blooded a handful of promising teenagers from City’s Elite Develoment Squad against Arsenal in Beijing, it’s clear The Champions are looking to build from within now that a series of young international stars successfully form the backbone of the team.

As for the signings, City’s owners tend to operate in stealth bomber mode since the lessons learned in Kakagate. VMC will bring you the news of who’s signed, sealed and delivered as soon as the sky blue smoke goes up.
