City boss Roberto Mancini has followed reasserting his authority with a squad meeting this week in slating English hacks operating with unanimity against The Blues…

The dapper City gaffer spoke to Italy’s leading newswire The Agenzia Nazionale Stampa Associata of his disbelief and frustration at the almost daily anti-City propaganda that Planet Blue is repeatedly fending off. City are currently fourth in the Premier League but numerous pundits have been clamouring for a Mancini sacking and City implosion:

‘Manchester City have been criticised for many reasons. I am Italian and this can open me up to controversy, but we are calm and relaxed. We haven’t been working together long and if the season ended now, I’d be very happy. We are fighting for the Champions League and not only that…the English newspapers will do anything to sell more copies, even resorting to fantasy and inventing stories.’

Some of the articles have beggared belief and have gone up a gear since City lost two consecutive league games, yet Mancio remains steadfast in his belief that he can change the club’s mentality:

‘…one day I will return home to Italy…but right now I have to work with City, a great club with extraordinary potential. Now is the time to do the dirty work of changing their mentality and constructing a great squad. It’s a tiring process and I want to do it well.’

This correspondent believes that it won’t do Manchester City any harm to stand by Mancini and rid ourselves of the hire them, fire them culture that has engulfed our club for many, many years.

Should a slowly gelling City squad and supporters come out of the latest tidal wave of derision with a siege mentality forged, then this episode in this campaign’s history may yet be looked back upon as the catalyst that spurred us all on.
