The year was 2016 and let’s face it; Manchester City was struggling to keep clean sheets. Recently arrived Pep Guardiola was not a Joe Hart fan and we later found out he was on the verge of being hoofed out on-loan. Claudio Bravo (Barcelona’s number two), his eventual successor, recently purchased from Camp Nou was to have constant catastrophic nightmares throughoput the 2016/17 season (that’s another story!).
Rumours were rife – the Manchester City boss was desperate to find his number-one keeper. Someone who he could trust.
The name on most people’s lips was the incredible Barcelona number one shot-stopper, Marc Ter Stegen.
To give you a sense about the number of potential goalkeeper rumours doing the rounds during the 2016 summer transfer period I’ve decided to dig out an old Blue Moon Rising TV, Transfer Target video. The contents within should rekindle two-year-old memories.
Marc Ter Stegen Explains Why He Turned Down Manchester City Move
The 26-year-old German international recently sat with those at ESPN and in doing so explained his reasons why he refused to move to Manchester.
The interviewer asks.
“Is it true that you would have joined Manchester City in 2016, but for your wife missing out on a place at Manchester University?”
His reply can be found at ESPN.
Twelve months on from the Marc Ter Stegen speculation MCFC signed Ederson. And I for one was delighted.
