City chairman John Wardle has commemorated the third anniversary of Marc-Vivien Foe’s tragic and untimely death by laying a wreath in the Memorial Garden at the City of Manchester stadium.
Speaking about Foe, Wardle said, ‘Marc will never be forgotten by this club. He was a true gentleman and is still missed by everyone who met him.’
Foe was just 28 when he collapsed late on in a Confederations Cup semi-final against Colombia in Lyon in 2003 to the horror of the spectators in the stadium and the large TV audience.
Marc made a huge impact in his short spell for City, playing just 38 games whilst on loan from Lyon and it speaks volumes about the man that he is so fondly remembered even though he was only with us for such a brief period.
As a mark of respect his No 23 shirt was retired by the club in his memory.
Rest in Peace M-VF, you’ll always be remembered.

2003: Netted 9 times in 35 appearances for City and fittingly scores the last goal at Maine Road
